It works with so many version it's strange :S

it should work. Sometimes all the functions are not visible. Do you have a function "show all tools/commands" in the edit menu? (mine is in french so I can't tell you the exact name). Well the command should appear, still un the edit menu, as "define brush preset (you have to select the shape with the lasso first)
