1 pic posted. 3 comments: She looks like... She reminds me... It's SO annoying to read this all the time. I'm sorry but sometimes I wish my viewers had imagination. PLEASE READ THE LIMK BELOW TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I REALLY MEAN/FEEL. Thanks a lot <3

edit > If you look at my journal I've never said I was feeling insulted. I'm bored, I've just said that it annoys me. Don't transform everything :) Then, if your only goal in life is to be popular on DA, well it's sad. I appreciate every critique. It's just that for me, this kind of comment is not a critique but just something said without any true reflection in the end O_o I've read them for 10 years. I think I've won the right to be annoyed one evening in my life.

(soon)

It's hard to learn to critique. What they are really saying is, "all of your work looks like Ariel with different hair. Please show more creativity and originality." Ironically, your young viewers are also wishing ~your~ work had more imagination too! If they were not, you would not receive that comment so many times. Expect more of them.

Recently I've made a piece introducing a character that I've been working on for a little while, and so far the comments say, "Oh hey! it looks like that girl from Metal Gear!"

Now, I feel this situation is a little different, since I did not know this character and was not inspired by that character to make my own. (I was instead inspired by the very attractive art styles and characters of *nargyle and `cheeks-74) So at this point, it doesn't bother me much, especially since I've only one piece of my character and I haven't shown my development sketches of her.

But I do understand your frustration; some people just don't realize where the real inspiration came from.

Ive always found it odd because it certainly isnt a compliment..
..im not sure there is a point to saying it..
and especially when they're really reaching!
like
"this looks just like Sakura if her hair was black and she was a large man"

sooo.. not at all?

I don't take it as a critique, negative or positive. For me it's just someone who needs to say "something". :(

Ah... wow.

And here I try so hard just to get people to LEAVE constructive comments instead of just favoriting stuff and fading away into the background.

I know originality is everything, but there is NOTHING new under the sun. Something will always remind you of something else. I don't understand why this is insulting. Isn't it incredible to know that your work has set off a trigger in someone, touched them deeply, even if it's because it reminds them of something else that causes the same response?

...Not trying to start an argument. Just trying to quell the rage and doubt you may feel when you hear those comments. You are OBVIOUSLY a talented artist... and just because a person may not be able to sum up why your work is on par with the Mona Lisa with originality of phrasing... you CAN'T POSSIBLY doubt yourself.
